About Himroo Saree:
Himroo is a fabric made of silk and cotton, which is grown locally in Aurangabad. This exquisite fabric was brought to Aurangabad in the reign of Mohammad Tughlaq (the Eccentric Mughal King in early 12th century), when he had shifted his capital from Delhi to Daulatabad, Aurangabad.
The word Himroo originated from Persian word Hum-ruh which means ‘similar’. Himroo is a replication of Kum-khwab, which was woven with pure golden and silver threads in olden days, and was meant for the royal families.
The complicated method of himroo-weaving involves intermeshing of various threads made from gold silver and cotton. It is a task of highly talented and skilled weavers on the handlooms.
Himroo uses Persian , Ajantha, Ellora’s carving, painting, designs and is very characteristic and distinctive in appearance and decorated with figurative motifs. The design are geomatrical and floral.
The products of Himroo, consist of sarees, bed sheet, pillow covers, and other fancy items such as shawls and stoles.
